The Inside Story

Have you ever wonder what goes inside your sofa?
Why is it sinking and is it really value for your money?
Here's a glimpse of the "inside story"...

Story No 1 - Beneath the seat cushions

This photo is taken off one of the sofa that we were assigned to reupholster. The webbing belt underneath the seat is responsible for the resilency and comfort of the sofa seat. A layer of foam is usually place over it. In this instance, the webbing belts are a bit too sparse and over time, the owner felt that the seat is sinking. To rectify the problem, we add a piece of material over the webbing belt before covering it back with the foam. This will gives additional support to the seat and eliminates the "sinking" feel that the owner has.

Story No 2: Back of Sofa

This is what we found when we stripped down this sofa.
Or rather, what we cannot find. Back of frame is just like that - BARE. The sofa fabric is just stapled onto the wooden frame along it's perimeter. Its probably fine if this sofa is placed against the wall. But if you place it in the middle of the living room where the back is exposed, you will over time get a "ripple" effect on the back. It is also not very strong in term of support.
So instead of returning it to the owner in the same manner, we took the extra step of adding another layer of stronger fabric along the frame before covering it up with the new fabric. Simple add on that does not cost the owner an extra penny ;p

Story No 3: Backrest of sofa

This photo is taken after the "Jazz it Up" addition ;p
What I am referring to is the back of the backrest where you lean back on. On this sofa, there i s nothing apart from the piece of thin muslin over the frame.
Not acceptable by our master who take pride in his work. Without even consulting me, he took the extra step to add on webbing belts for better support. Sigh, it means extra cost for me :( But what to do, such is the standard of quality that I had insisted on and he is "well trained" to follow :p

Stay tune for photos of the newly re-upholstered sofa ....

Dining chairs - reupholstered

Check out these beautiful dining chairs! The original leather does not hold up well in this weather. And so the owner has chose to reupholster it, giving it a new lease of life.
What is more interesting is the combination of 2 different fabric for the 10 chairs that they have. Well coordinated and definitely added more interest to the dining room! Good choice mdm :p (u know who u are)

Bold prints in a striking black & white 100% cotton. A definite attention grabber!
Match with a very practical black & grey coudroy. Definitely children friendly!
