The Inside Story

Image
Have you ever wonder what goes inside your sofa? Why is it sinking and is it really value for your money? Here's a glimpse of the "inside story"... Story No 1 - Beneath the seat cushions This photo is taken off one of the sofa that we were assigned to reupholster. The webbing belt underneath the seat is responsible for the resilency and comfort of the sofa seat. A layer of foam is usually place over it. In this instance, the webbing belts are a bit too sparse and over time, the owner felt that the seat is sinking. To rectify the problem, we add a piece of material over the webbing belt before covering it back with the foam. This will gives additional support to the seat and eliminates the "sinking" feel that the owner has. Story No 2: Back of Sofa This is what we found when we stripped down this sofa. Or rather, what we cannot find. Back of frame is just like that - BARE. The sofa fabric is just stapled onto the wooden frame along it's per...

Dining chairs - reupholstered

Image
Check out these beautiful dining chairs! The original leather does not hold up well in this weather. And so the owner has chose to reupholster it, giving it a new lease of life. What is more interesting is the combination of 2 different fabric for the 10 chairs that they have. Well coordinated and definitely added more interest to the dining room! Good choice mdm :p (u know who u are) Bold prints in a striking black & white 100% cotton. A definite attention grabber! Match with a very practical black & grey coudroy. Definitely children friendly!

Bay Window's cushions

Image
I've done many bay window cushions over the years, but especially like this one. This is for a baby girl's room. The fabric chosen matches so well with the floral motifs on the side. Of course, for those of you who opt for a softer approach, I have lots of other fabric to do so. Can even provide a thicker cushion insert and lots of toss cushions to coordinate.

Pipings can do wonders

Image
Remember my earlier post, the one with the red pipings? Well that is a good example of using a sharp contrasting colors to "jazz it up" a otherwise "just there" chair. It's an art decor piece that draws attention. Though I must add that the owner's husband was a bit taken back at first ;-) Here is more examples of what contrasting pipings can be used to liven up and bring characteristics to fabric. Contrasting piping gives the extra "wow" factor. Here pink is used to liven up the subtle lavender/gold weaves. Sofa is actually placed over a carpet with intricate designs and some mauve colors weaving into it. I especially love the vibrancy of this fabric! Contrasting greens, blacks and white lines with black pipings give this otherwise discarded iron wrought bench a new lease of life again. Such colors combination is most suitable for small piece of furniture as it will really draws attention and at the same time not get too loud. (this wrought ...

Glider rocker

Quilted seat foam and backrest are replaced with new high density foam with removable covers with double pipings. Skirts to cover the glider. Quilted seat foam and backrest are replaced with new high density foam with removable covers with double pipings. Skirts to cover the glider.

Burgundy red covers for a more sophisticated look and yet dark enough to be "kid friendly" Pillow covers with contrasting colors liven up the suite, creating a "happier" play area for the 2 growing kids.
Image
Remember this chair? Before - non descript. Now transformed to an art decor piece with character. Note how the red piping coordinates with the zebra's painting behind. Cover for toss pillow has 2 sides to it. Solid red when there's a need for attention and matching print with pipings when in a slightly more subtle mood ;-p

Before n After

Image
Remember the work in progress that I mentioned in my previous blog. Recognise it? The one that had a "bent arm" This was before we operated on it. Of course when we detected that, we had it replaced. And since it was only a slat, we did it at no extra cost to the client. This is the "AFter" results. Note the nice "bun" feet that is wrapped in the same fabric. It gives it a real Southwestern feel to it.

Some of the Work in progress

Image
Hello my dear friends, It's been a while since I last update this blog. In spite of the gloomy economical downturn, I've been very blessed with jobs that kept me going for the past quarter. A BIG THANK YOU to all your continuous supports and referrals for the past 8 years. Thank you for your trust in Jazz it Up. Please keep it coming :) Its my pleasure to share with you some of our work in progress. Bonetta Ramsey's sleeper was brought to us for reupholstering. Upon dismantling we found that the supporting strip of wood underneath had been bent over use. In case like this, we replace it without additional charge. This is another sofa for Anne Purcell. After we had reupholstered and return to her, she found that the backrest is not as firm as before. This came as a surprise as it is not our policy to remove any upholstered materials within the sofa. Not unless it is damaged and needs replacement. In which case, we will notify the client and if major, the additional co...

Made to Order - Modular Sectional

Image
Jazz up with assorted cushions Here's a 4-piece modular sectional and ottoman that's been tailor-made to fit. Non sagged zigzag springs reinforce with heavy duty webbing belt and solid wood were used to construct the frames, giving both durability and comfort. To further enhance the seating comfort, we used a blend of foam and feather for the seat cushions and a blend of feathers and fiber-fills for the backrest. This blend, unlike 100% feather, helps to hold the shape and yet maintain the luxurious feel only found in feather fillings. Here we used solid wood for the frame. Double reinforcement - 'S' springs, clipped onto the front stretcher to provide extra resiliency, and the webbing belt further enhanced durability. Unlike most off-the-shelf furnishings, we used solid wooden boards even for the sides of the frame. And before we cover it all up, we will invite our client to our factory to try out the seating. At this point, we still can adjust the firmness of the se...

What I do....

Image
Hey, they call me your local, diminutive "Phua Chu Kang" minus the yellow boots for a reason. For those of you who are not familiar with our local sitcom, "PCK" is your typical loud contractor who promises to deliver, be it in Singapore, Johor and some say Batam too :-) Now, I may not have done anything for Johor or Batam. But apart from Singapore, I have revived upholstery, sewn curtains and beddings, with overseas orders from places as far as Europe and America...

Some of my "Before & After" .....

Image
Some of my 'before & after' projects...These sleeper sofa and chairs have definitely seen better days; but WAIT! Don't trash them! Think of the environment, think of the wastage! Call Jazz it Up, I will come by with my wide range of fabric samples and together, over coffee, we can revive it. I can propose the colour and texture that will match your decor; I will repair the sagging springs and replace the old and flat foam. I will give them new lease of life! Seeing is believing. Check it out.
